The ultimate goal for this project was to transform a grand old movie palace into a state-of-the-art performing arts facility, while retaining the unequaled magnificence of its interior.  Our task was to complete restoration of the Theatre’s historic finishes, but also conduct major demolition and additions to the existing structure.

The existing stage house was demolished to make room for the new deeper stage house that could accommodate live performances typical of today’s performing arts centers.  In order to build the new stage house on a constrained site, a 10-story structure was attached to the existing theatre and cantilevered over a public street.  The structure is supported by drilled piers installed immediately adjacent to the existing foundations.

“When Denark was selected as the construction manager for this very important project, it was apparent from the start that your company and all of its employees – from the project executive to the office receptionist – were committed to excellence. Every detail was attended to, and careful thought was put into every course of action, from preconstruction all the way through the final punch list walk through. Denark was proud to be part of such a monumental project and understood its importance to the Knoxville community, and that pride manifested itself in every aspect of your work. Ten years, 1.25 million visitors, and 1550 events later, we are still proud of the fine work performed and overseen by Denark.”
