Denark served as General Contractor on this state-of-the-art teaching facility, which houses the Chemistry, Physics & Astronomy, and Science Education departments.

The project includes studio laboratory classrooms so classes can be taught in inquiry-driven mode; that is, no more separate lecture and lab. Hands-on discussion and explanation were seamlessly interwoven in classrooms to facilitate collaborative learning.

The facility utilizes multiple sustainable design and construction principles including high-efficiency glass to allow light in without transmitting radiant heat, thereby reducing the cooling load in the summer. South-facing glass is covered with material that also provides a radiant heat block.

“I just walked the halls of the New Science Building and am so inspired. More students are succeeding in class, and we attribute it all to the things the building brings, including tutoring, lab orientations, and a positive daily outlook for students and faculty. This building is performing exceptionally well. Words can’t really describe what it means to us. Thank you does not seem to be enough.”
